GR 03-01

Close your eyes and imagine for a moment how many aspects of your life are determined by vision. For thousands of Canadians, this is no exercise. Nearly two-hundred years have passed since the invention of Braille, the familiar reading and writing symbols developed for the instruction of the blind, and yet finding Braille material is still a difficult and frustrating challenge. John Rae is the president of the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians, and he’s touring the country to bring awareness to the often neglected needs of Canada’s blind and vision impaired. John Rae in the first half.

And; being sighted is not the same as seeing. As old as human civilization itself, the role of the Seer has been an integral element for survival. Kings, Emperors, Caesars, and Presidents have all sought the advantage of foreknowledge, using the talents of psychics and scientists to see better what’s coming down the road. Like their coal mine canary counterparts, these Cassandras ring alarms others miss, or choose to ignore. Judith Koltai is the Founder and Animateur of the Cassandra Project, an effort to document and understand what makes a Cassandra. Judith Koltai in the second half.

And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all the good things to do in and around Victoria this week. But first, John Rae bringing light to the blind.
