During the past ten days, hundreds of protesters have been arrested in Burnaby, British Columbia in what has been dubbed the Standing Rock of the North. The target of their nonviolent resistance is the proposed 7.4 billion dollar expansion of Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline.

The expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline would nearly triple the flow of Alberta's landlocked bitumen to Canada's west coast and dramatically increase oil tanker traffic in the Pacific.

Romilly Cavanaugh is an environmental engineer with 30 years experience, and is the recipient of the prestigious Fellow of Engineers Canada award for outstanding contributions to the profession of engineering. She also has a Masters degree from Harvard University in Sustainability and Environmental Management. Romilly was arrested on Tuesday for protesting the expansion of the Kinder Morgan pipeline near Vancouver, BC.
