Messages to Palestinians

Message to Palestinians

“In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” - George Orwell

Every day here we make new friends who make their way to our museum of natural history (palestinenature.org) or to whom we speak in other venues. Monday it was a group from University of Oklahoma, the Korean Representative and his staff, several drop-in visitors, and at the French-German Cultural Center in Ramallah. Tuesday, it was a french delegation of 11 people and three other French Nationals, delegation from Beit Sahour Women Union, and two visitors from Harvard University. Good people care and want to learn and to help.

Before this week's links, I share with you an important and uplifting message to all Palestinians from a great friend: Dr. Ang Swee Chai author of the book "From Beirut to Jerusalem: A Woman Surgeon With the Palestinians" an orthopaedic surgeon who volunteered in Lebanon treating war injuries including during Israel's occupation of Beirut.

The book details her eye-witness account of the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982.

Dr. Ang established a British charity known as the Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Here is what she wrote in brevity and poignancy to us two days ago:

We know it is not over! The only deaths are the souls of those with uncaring hearts. They will rot in hell. I  have seen Palestinians continue to rise above every tragedy. What we must do is to continue to support and stand in solidarity with them. They are a nation of builders and rebuilders, a people of strength and resilience, of courage and honour. May we as friends draw inspiration from them and continue to journey on with them, and not be afraid and faint-hearted. The dead will be buried and find peace. The wounds will heal. The  strength will return. The young will grow up and lead the struggle. It is not over until justice is restored, not over till tyranny is defeated, not over till Palestine is free and all can live in security and dignity. The darkest hour is just before dawn. Love you all and God bless you all.

Film by Dr. Rona Sela, an Israeli curator, researcher of visual history and culture, and lecturer at Tel Aviv University, can help. Rona Sela has made her 46-minute documentary film ‘Looted and Hidden’ available for free on Vimeo until 22 May, on the occasion of 70 years Nakba.Rona found stolen and ‘imprisoned’ photos and film footage in the Israeli military archives. The film features Khadijeh Habashneh and Sabri Jiryis.
