FUTUREPAST: Return of The Ministry of Casual Living

FUTUREPAST January 24th and 25th 7pm- 10pm

by The Ministry of Casual Living

The Ministry of Casual Living has found a new home and is celebrating with 50 feature artists from all over the country.

FUTUREPAST is a celebration of the 11 and 10 twelfths anniversary of the illustrious artist run center, The Ministry of Casual Living, as well as a tip of the hat to their unknown future in their new home on Fort st.

After nearly 3 year’s without a home the Ministry will be opening its doors, at 819 Fort St., over a double-header celebration on January 24th and 25th.

The openings will feature works by 50 of the most innovative local and international artists with many of the artists in attendance on one or both of the evenings.

Minister of Casual Living, Katie Sage says;

“The Ministry of Casual Living having a physical space again is integral for the arts community on unceeded Lekwungen Territory, Victoria, because the Ministry provides something that other spaces do not, which is autonomy for their artists. When artists have both material and community/peer support without the restraints imposed through government or private gallery funding and galleries with ideas about what is appropriate for ‘art’, really amazing work can happen. Now the ministry cannot only provide studio space for emerging artists to work, it also has a gallery in addition to our window on the wall of Odeon Alley.”

International art critic, Harry Rosenborg says;

“The Ministry of Casual Living is the most important place for emerging artists on the planet right now. Period. If you have never heard of them and have yet to check them out, what are you doing with your life?”
