Funny Business Precedes BC Greens Convention: Party Chair Candidacy Fracas

Fearing Defeat of his Hand Picked Candidate, Weaver Cancels Vote at Greens AGM

by Len Laycock

If you dislike Andrew Weaver’s snuggling up to Mr Black and oil  tankers, you’ll be unhappier still when you know about the vote snuffing shenanigans he’s up to right now.

Until yesterday Len Laycock was the leading candidate in the race for chair of the Green Party of BC. Weaver, fearing his hand picked candidate for Chair will loose to Laycock in the last round of voting at the Green’s AGM this Saturday in Kelowna, hastily introduced a motion to a barely assembled quorum of compliant Green Party Provincial Councilors to remove Laycock from the election.

Weaver’s strategy - If you can’t win, cancel the election. This would allow Weaver 217's compliant candidate for Chair, Bob Lorriman, to win by acclamation.

Weaver supporters hastily created two complaints and rammed them through an ‘ombudsman’ who is also a Weaver supporter, and is NOT elected as Party Bylaws require. Contrary to Party rules, Laycock was given less than 24 hours to respond to each complaint, an impossible task. His protest was shouted down.

The Weaver cabal is intent on preventing a full vote by Party members because they fear the outcome. SO THEY SNUFFED THE ELECTION.

The Party is in disarray, with the Provincial Executive spending members scarce money on a lawyer to protect them from the outrage. Hundreds of supporters may have their votes annulled. Control of the Green Party will continue to be decided by a cabal of insiders, not the voting members.

After 31 years of existence the Greens have elected only one MLA,  party membership has declined by -14% in the past 10 months, the Party is out of money and borrowing funds, and the current fundraising drive that ends in a month is failing miserably, currently at only 17 % of its target. But iron-fisted control by a cabal of Weaver cronies is secure.
