Just more than a year into Christy Clark's "surprise government," the future fate of British Columbia is anything but certain.

Mega-projects loom over the lands and waters like great circling carrion birds, their shadows a chilling reminder of the destructive potential of the political process.

Meanwhile, a doggedly uncertain economic environment is exerting pressure on BC to ditch its promises to curb carbon emissions policies, climate change or no, and make of the province a fossil fuel super highway, providing transit to the sea for Tar Sands bitumen, and building of our bays and inlets port facilities for massive coal exports to Asia.

Then of course, there's fracking.

But, how did it all happen; how did one of British Columbia's most unpopular governments ever, with the mere application of a newly lipsticked leader, manage to snatch Victoria from the jaws of Adrian Dix and the NDP?

Walt McGinnis is a Victoria-based democracy and environmental activist dedicated to protecting the democratic process from corporatism, and co-host of the weekly television public affairs program, Citizen's Forum. Walt's work with StopSmartMeters.ca was instrumental in bringing about the 2011 moratorium on Smart Meter installation at the Convention of the Union of B.C. Municipalities. He's also an electrical contractor specializing in "making the built environment safe from the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation." Walt McGinnis is too the author of the article, 'TOPP SECRET: Was the 2013 Election in British Columbia Rigged?' which details the sordid background to one of the province's most ignominious political defeats.

And; this Friday, June 13th, David Ellis will present evidence of an imminent rupture in the Trans Mountain pipeline to Hope RCMP, and request the force, as per their duty to public safety, order the pipeline shutdown between Portia and Hope, BC. Ellis, a retired scientist who specialized in Natural Resource Management and was key author on the seminal report, 'Net Loss' for the David Suzuki Foundation says the current state of the six decades-old pipeline promises a spill he believes will destroy the Fraser River salmon run. Ellis' past experience in British Columbia include work as an Independent Fisheries Consultant, Commercial Fisherman, a stint with B.C. Forest Service as a Forestry Assistant, and as an Ethnographic Researcher in Skidegate and Victoria.
