Ape Goes to Wilderness Committee BC Legislature Petition Delivery

by C. L. Cook - Gorilla-Radio.com

Feb. 28, 2017

The Wilderness Committee presented a 40,000+ strong petition to NDP MLA George Heyman and sole Green Party of BC MLA, Andrew Weaver to bolster their respective attempts to have stand-alone Species at Risk legislation introduced.

British Columbia is one of only two provinces in Canada without such legislation already in place.

I went down and talked to Wilderness Committee Vancouver Island Campaigner, Torrance Coste.

Listen. Hear.

VICTORIA - The Wilderness Committee will deliver 40,090 signatures on a petition calling for an endangered species law to the BC legislature at 12:30 p.m.

The 40,090 signatures represent the many British Columbians strongly in favour of a robust endangered species law that protects the province’s 1,900 species at risk, such as grizzly bears, Vancouver Island marmots, American badgers, and the 12 spotted owls left in wild in BC.

The event’s speakers will be:

  • Torrance Coste, Wilderness Committee Vancouver Island Campaigner.
  • MLA George Heyman, Opposition spokesperson for Environment, Green Economy and Technology.
  • MLA Andrew Weaver, Leader of the BC Green Party.
