October 11th, 2018

With this year's Fall in BC comes the municipal elections. October 20th is your chance - if you're a citizen of "majority" age, and possess the requisite identification and are registered, or registrable - to cast votes for Mayors and council, Capital Region District directors, and School Board trustees.

Unlike the larger provincial and federal elections, candidates in these polls are not generally professional politicians, but citizen peers interested in the issues governing the way our communities run, and how the place where we live will evolve and develop in the near term. These are issues, amid the accelerated pace of change around here, of unprecedented importance.

Listen. Hear.

Ted Smith is a long-time justice activist and co-founder of the Victoria Cannabis Buyer’s Club, which provides cannabis-based products to people with terminal and incurable medical conditions. Ted broke the legal trail in the medical marijuana struggle, persevering repeated harassment and arrest, and taking the case all the way to Canada’s Supreme Court – and winning!

Ted Smith in the first half.

And; Jordan Reichert is no stranger to politicking, the mental health and addictions professional, animal advocate, community organizer, and Victoria local, ran in the last federal election, and has too put himself forward for a seat on Victoria City Council this time around.

Jordan Reichert and seeking, "Public policy that reflects the values, needs, and diversity of Victoria" in the second half.

And; Victoria-based activist and CFUV Radio broadcaster at-large, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour with the Left Coast Events Bulletin of some of the good things to be gotten up to around here in the coming week. But first, Ted Smith and "a campaign to make government more accountable and accessible to citizens."
