Gorilla Radio for Monday, February 7th, 2005

While the majority of Canadians are rightly appalled by the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, few in this country are aware of, or care about, OUR collective criminal complicity in the invasion and occupation of Haiti. In fact, we’re willing to pay for a portion of the continued state terror being conducted against the Haitian people.

Last week, Paul Martin pledged 17 million dollars to help with Haiti’s upcoming elections. That’s on top of the nearly 150 million already pledged to “help” ease the crisis in Haiti. What the Prime Minister left unsaid however, was Canada’s role in creating that crisis.

Anthony Fenton is a Vancouver-based freelance journalist who has spent the last year researching and documenting human rights abuses occurring in Haiti since the February 2004 coup that chased the elected government of Jean Paul Aristide off the island. Anthony Fenton in the first half.

And; the confetti and balloons from the 50 million dollar Bush inaugural extravaganza have been swept up and trashed. Though this election was as illegitimate as the last, the American media and political elite seem content to pretend all is well, and so consign democracy to the same dumpster.

No court challenge short of impeachment can now loose the hold on power of George and his neo-con cohorts.

But, that doesn’t mean the American people are happy about it. Eric Blumrich is an artist, social commentator, and blogger. His site, Bushflash.com uses flash animation to marry images, text and music that deliver dissent by the boatload. Eric Blumrich and documenting the evil effects of Bush unleashed, and the harrowing desperation of his victims in the second half.

And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that’s good to do in and around Victoria this week.

Gorilla Radio airs live, every Monday between 5-6pm pacific time at 101.9 FM in Victoria, 104.3 FM cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca

But first, Anthony Fenton and Canada’s imperial ambitions.
