In the shadow cast by Israel's modern Holocaust in Gaza, Palestinian's in the West Bank are subject to a daily pogrom carried out by both the government and its "settlers". Hundreds are dead, and thousands disappeared through so-called 'administrative detention' measures; denied charge, trial dates, and held incommunicado. All this while suffering sadistic abuse.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society says as of April 17th's Palestinian Prisoner's Day, a date coinciding with an "...escalation of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and implementing of more systematic violations and crimes..." nearly 8,000 from the West Bank and Jerusalem are currently held captive, including women and children; all subject to "physical and sexual abuse [as] cited by Amnesty International and the United Nations Human Rights Council."

Salam Hamdan is a Palestinian political activist and Social-Feminist from Ramallah in Occupied Palestine's West Bank. She's currently in Canada.

Salam Hamdan in the first half.

And; across Africa, and far beyond too, Burkina Faso is in the news. Now the Sahel region nation is part of the greatest liberation struggle against Western imperialism the continent has seen in five centuries. Led by interim leader, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina and neighbouring Mali and Niger broke from ECOWAS to form the AES, or Alliance of Sahel States, a devoutly Pan-African bloc determined to wrest military and economic control of the so-called "Coup Belt" countries from foreign domination.

But, is Traoré the second coming of revolutionary Thomas Sankara - and his allies the true harbingers of the long-awaited African renaissance his supporters contend - or just another iteration of power-hungry pretenders, as their critics charge?

Claude Gatebuke is Executive Director and co-Founder of the African Great Lakes Action Network, or AGLAN. Claude is a survivor of the prelude to and aftermath of the Rwandan Genocide of the early 1990's and is co-author of the book 'Survivors Uncensored 100+ testimonies from survivors of the Rwandan Genocide'.

Claude Gatebuke and the next stage of Africa's liberation in the second half.

But first, Salam Hamdan and Palestine's darkest days.

And welcome to Summer's prelude in Canada, when the Sun's promise of scorching days to come lay ill-disguised behind the last of the Arctic chill, as wheeling migrant birds fill blue-becoming skies. Now too is the time itinerant buskers, balladeers, troubadors and trobairitz tune their travel plans and settle bookings for the hay-making season peeking just over the horizon.

David Rovics is just such a one readying for the road, (though perversely an antipodean Winter's sojourn). But that suits to a tee the contrarian instincts of a social critic who, while treading the plank of multitudinous stages and wearing out rugs at home concerts from here to Timbuktu, has too found the time to write countless essays on a wide breadth of topics examining and trying the logic of life in these our strange times.

David Rovics in the first half.

And; Canada's recent federal election returned a minority government, the third in the last four polls. Despite the stalemate though, this election was not short of high drama and stunning reversals; reversals that portend nation-changing developments perhaps in the near future. Besides three (and a half) of contending party leaders losing their home riding seats, the greatest twist in the electoral plot is the rout of the perennially third place finishing New Democrats, (and incidental erasure of the Green Party of Canada).

Alex Tyrrell is leader of the Quebec Green Party. He's a long-time critic of the federal Green's leader, cum co-leader, Elizabeth May, (the last Green standing in the Parliament). Tyrrell says, of the Green Party of Canada's many mistakes, "...changes they made to the party’s worldviews did not resonate with anyone."

Alex Tyrrell and Whither the Green agenda in Canada? in the second half.

But first, David Rovics and Musical Travelogues past and to come.

And Happy impending International Workers' Day! All over the World, (outside of North America) May 1st is the day for those who toil to rest and recognize without their labours civilization stops. It's a simple and obvious truth the powers that be - which shouldn't be - spend enormous amounts of time and fortunes obscuring from the public's cognition. Obviated too is the parallel purpose of the original May Day; Peace. The robot intelligence informs: "In 1889, the Second Socialist International designated May 1st as a day of international workers' struggle, including calls for an eight-hour work day, universal suffrage, and world peace..."

One hundred and thirty-six years later the need for peace has never been greater.

Meanwhile, opposite sides of the Russo-American War are talking peace; though how seriously remains a matter of conjecture. What is certain however, as the principles posture the little people, those whose work maintains the World, are paying the price of this protracted conflict.

John Helmer’s a journalist and author who’s spent decades living in and reporting from Russia. He’s the principle behind the web news site, Dances with Bears and has - as well as serving as advisor to governments at the highest level - too been a professor of political science, sociology, and journalism. Among Helmer's many book titles are: ‘The Man Who Knows Too Much About Russia,’ ‘The Lie That Shot Down MH-17, ‘Skripal in Prison,’ and now the freshly released Skripal sequel, 'LONG LIVE NOVICHOK! The British Poison that Fooled the World'.

Today, John Helmer writing, 'Russia Is Ready for a Bad Deal with Trump for Good Russian Reasons' and more insight on the backroom maneouvrings between the erstwhile rivals to remake the post-Cold War World.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Andy Worthington, Ray McGinnis April 23, 2025

Remember Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, because his name could well become immortalized alongside others in the American political Hall of Shame, like Lewinsky, Iran-Contra, and of course Watergate. The humble immigrant from El Salvador is transcended now individuality - in his kidnap and extradition to a foreign penitentiary - to becoming a symbol of Donald Trump's lawlessness. He is too perhaps the harbinger of the president's fall from grace, (or in this case more an inelegant pratfall down the front stairs).

Andy Worthington's an English journalist, activist, author, photo-historian, filmmaker, musician, song-writer and principle of The Four Fathers band. Andy is too a co-founder of the ongoing Close Guantánamo campaign, who's “First Wednesday” Monthly Coordinated Global Vigils continue yet. Worthington's book titles include: ‘The Guantánamo Files: The Stories of the 774 Detainees in America’s Illegal Prison’, ‘Stonehenge: Celebration and Subversion’, and ‘The Battle of the Beanfield. Andy's articles appear at: AndyWorthington.co.uk, where I found his latest, 'No One Is Safe As Trump Gleefully Deports Migrants to El Salvador’s Mega-Guantánamo Without Evidence, Or Even Via An “Administrative Error”'.

Andy Worthington in the first half.

And; three years after the Canadian government decided to use wartime legislation to incarcerate citizens for protesting what they believed were unjust policies, a court in Ottawa has read the verdict in the Chris Barber and Tamara Lich case, and the prosecution is seeking two years incarceration for their roles in 2022's Trucker's Freedom Convoy to Ottawa. The truckers you may recall were protesting Covid-era lockdowns and mandated vaccinations.

Ray McGinnis is an author and retired educator who, concerned about the unprecedented invocation of the Emergencies Act in 2022, attended and began reporting on the Public Order Emergency Commission hearings, and was one of the only journalists in Canada to follow the subsequent 'Coutts Four' case, publishing numerous articles on its traducing of Canadian legal norms.

Ray's book titles include, 'Writing the Sacred: A Psalm-inspired Path to Appreciating and Writing Sacred Poetry', 'Unanswered Questions: What the September Eleventh Families Asked and the 9/11 Commission Ignored', and the newly released, 'Unjustified: The Freedom Convoy, The Emergencies Act, and The Inquiry That Got It Wrong'.

Ray McGinnis and Canada compounding injustice in the second half.

But first, Andy Worthington and the sinister "errors" of the Trump-era.

The killing continues today across Gaza and in the West Bank, the same as it has done for more than 18 months. One difference though, according to a recent report by the United Nations Human Rights Office, is that since March 18th, of the 224 recorded bombing attacks against refugee camps, 36 of these killed only women and children.

Whether this is an Israeli decision to specifically target women and children, or merely the chance result of indiscriminate bombing the UN won't venture, but it precedes mass "evacuation orders" forcing the population into ever smaller areas, where vital resources like food and water are denied, and the people there are still subject to both targeted and indiscriminate bombing. That forced displacement constitutes, according to UN Human Rights Office spokesperson, Ravina Shamdasani a "...grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and a crime against humanity.

Laith Marouf is a Beirut-based multimedia consultant, producer, and now frontline war reporter. He's the founder and Executive Director of FreePalestine.Video whose purpose is to provide coverage of the region, “…in the absence of media supporting the resistance forces in the English language due to the ban in the West.”

Laith Marouf in the first half.

And; as Canada's federal election looms, the genocide all sides of the political spectrum here have tacitly supported is becoming an issue. While the Tories jumped last week onto the Trump train - promising crackdowns on students and immigrants protesting Israel's ongoing terror campaigns in Gaza and beyond - the incumbent Liberal leader remains harder to pin down.

Mark Carney's calculated noncommittal came to a head last week with a response of "I know" to a citizen shouting, "...there is a genocide happening in Palestine" at one of his speeches, triggering a Netanyahu election intervention. The Israeli leader and International Criminal Court genocidiere at-large is demanding Canada's acting prime minister now "backtrack your irresponsible statement".

Yves Engler is a Canadian journalist, author, and activist. He's written thirteen books on and about the perfidy of Canada and its foreign policy, the latest being 'Canada’s Long Fight Against Democracy'. Yves' recent election coverage article at his site, YvesEngler.com asks, 'Why the double standard about Israel’s foreign interference?'

Yves Engler and Canada's cooked electoral gooses in the second half.

But first, Laith Marouf and the widening genocide gyre in West Asia.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Diana Johnstone, Iain Tdone April 9, 2025

This Week on GR

by C.L. Cook - GRadio.Substack.com

April 9, 2025

Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded April 9th, 2025

Parisians in their thousands came out into the streets over the weekend; not just to bask in the Printemp glory of the City of Light, but too to raise hue and cris against the bitter state of affairs there. Sunday, followers of the polls-leading party Rassemblement National gathered before the Napoleon's Tomb to both rally support for their recently convicted leader Marine Le Pen and to "Save Democracy". They insist the French court's recent verdict finding Le Pen guilty of embezzlement is less justice served than Justice serving a political agenda. And, as if to underline the point, on the other side of the Seine, National Rally's political opponents came out in force to protest the protest.

Diana Johnstone is an American author and journalist who's lived in Paris and followed and written about French and European politics for several decades. Diana has too served as press secretary to the Green Group in the European Parliament, an experience recounted in her latest book, 'Circle of Darkness: Memoirs of a World Watcher'.

Johnstone's other titles include: 'Fools’ Crusade: Yugoslavia, NATO and Western Delusions', and 'From MAD to Madness: Inside Pentagon Nuclear War Planning', co-written with her father, Paul H. Johnstone. Some of her many essays on global affairs are also featured at ConsortiumNews.com.

Diana Johnstone in the first half.

And; Europeans aren't the only ones bemoaning political and economic stagnation. In North America too citizens are generally agreed they are suffering - if not a crisis - then certainly a malaise of democracy. Compounding that is the apparent abandonment of foundational mores of Western Civilization; witnessed through the aiding and abetting of Israel's genocide in Gaza, and reinforced by American president, Donald Trump's expressed desire to abrogate international law and annex Canada, Greenland, Panama, and further parts south.

Iain Tdone is an independent scholar and author, publishing at HeySlick.Substack.com, probing he says, "the tensions between past and future, memory and progress, through the fault lines of philosophy, storytelling, and cultural critique." It's where I found his February article, 'The Technate of North America: How the New Oligarchy Plans to Rule the Future'.

Iain Tdone and the practical guide to life in the coming technocratic feudal order in the second half.

But first, Diana Johnstone and rallying against the twilight of France's Fifth Republic.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Jeremy Kuzmarov, Kathy Kelly April 2, 2025

This Week on GR

by C.L. Cook - GRadio.Substack.com

April 2, 2025

Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded April 2, 2025.

And welcome back to the Age of Barbarism. It was perhaps a conceit of "Western Civilization", (something Mahatma Gandhi famously replied "would be a very good idea" when asked his opinion of it) a conceit that we'd ever managed to emerge the naked, dog eat dog jungle. But here we are again, watching culture and civilization collapse - or more exactly, being collapsed.

There is a common thread between the horrors visited on Gaza and Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, and that same in lesser seen places like Sudan, and Somalia, and Bangladesh. Last August, the government of Sheikh Hasina fell in Dhaka, just as those in Kiev and Damascus did, thanks to the coordinated campaigns of Western-backed "activists" and their barbarian accomplices. And if you haven't heard about it, that's no surprise; journalists covering the erasure of their societies are beaten, arrested, disappeared into prisons, and murdered in the street.

Professor Jeremy Kuzmarov is a scholar, journalist and author, who writes for and serves as Managing Editor to CovertAction Magazine. Kuzmarov's book titles include, ‘Obama’s Unending Wars’, ‘The Russians Are Coming, Again’, (written with John Marciano) and his latest, ‘Warmonger. How Clinton’s Malign Foreign Policy Launched the U.S. Trajectory From Bush II to Biden’. Jeremy's most recent article at CAM is, 'U.S. Backed Regime Change Operation Has Resulted in Reign of Terror in Bangladesh under Darling of the Clinton Foundation, Mohammed Yunus'.

Jeremy Kuzmarov in the first half.

And; though the terrorizing of Yemen's population by the United States' bombing campaign is getting some press now, most of those reading of the missile strikes and intelligence leak "faux pas" of the new Trump administration likely don't realize the country has suffered the full might of the Empire and its regional satraps for nearly a decade. And even yet neither the press, nor representatives on either side of Washington's political aisles has broached, as my second guest writes, "the inherent illegality of the United States’ bombing campaign against an impoverished country in defense of Israel amid its genocide of Palestinians".

Kathy Kelly is board president of World BEYOND War. A long-time peace and justice activist, essayist, author, and recipient of numerous awards for her peace service, she has too received multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace prize. Kelly's book titles include, ‘Prisoners on Purpose: a Peacemakers Guide to Jails and Prison,’ and ‘Other Lands Have Dreams: from Baghdad to Pekin Prison.’ Her recent essay at The Progressive is, 'The Real Outrage of Yemen'.

Kathy Kelly and America's other genocide in the second half.

But first, Jeremy Kuzmarov and the Nobel Laureate's reign of terror in Bangladesh.

[Kathy reminds, Peace activist and Nobel Prize winner Mairead Maguire has begun a 40 day fast for the children of Gaza. Go to the link to find out about it and lend your support.]

March 26, 2025

Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded March 26th and 12th, 2025

Two months into the second Trump administration what can we make of its aspirations for the next four years and the four to follow? Is the battering of the Constitution seen so far to expand from assaults on the 1st and 4th Amendments to perhaps the 5th and Heaven help us, the 2nd? Will the table-flipping, chair-strewing diplomatic performance exhibited towards allies like Panama, Canada, Denmark, Ukraine, and the European Union be visited too upon America's friends in Asia, Latin America, and Africa? And what does Trump's continuity of agenda mean for the Gaza genocide and more wars in the Middle East?

Dr. Christopher Mott is a Washington Fellow at the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy who formerly was placed at the US Department of State and Defense Priorities. His work now he says focuses on, "… historical geopolitics, grand strategy, and the intersection of defensive realism and conceptions of sovereignty in an era of increasing multi-polarity."

Chris' book, ‘The Formless Empire: A Short History of Diplomacy and Warfare in Central Asia’, traces the historical "…rise of indigenous forms of geopolitical strategy on the Eurasian steppe," and his articles appear at the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy's PeaceDiplomacy.org, The American Conservative, and at his site, GeoTrickster.com.

Chris Mott in the first half.

And; as genocidal Israel's terror campaign spreads beyond Gaza to Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, it's Palestinians in the West Bank first in the cross-hairs of the Greater Israel project. While much of the abuses in the West Bank are regularly ignored by the western press, it is an especially dangerous moment now as the horrors inflicted elsewhere overshadow what the people there are suffering at the hands of the occupiers.

Some thousands fled to the Russian air base Khmeimim in the early hours of the pogrom, but their and the fate of the Russian bases remaining in Syria is up in the air at the moment.

John Helmer’s a journalist and author who’s spent decades living in and reporting from Russia. Listen. Hear.

This past week, Canada's Special Envoy for Syria reiterated his country's support of the new regime, insisting "Canada can play a meaningful role in enabling Syrians to build an inclusive country that respects all of its citizens." Omar Alghabra's statement accompanied a pledge of a further $84 million dollars for "humanitarian assistance to respond to the crisis in Syria."

Though the provenance of that "crisis" does not appear in the Global Affairs Canada press release, everyone knows the disaster currently occurring in Syria is the product of regime change policies promoted and perpetuated by Canada and its allies for nearly fifteen years. But now, as Alawite communities experience an ethnocide as predictable as the seasons, Canada would have us believe throwing money at "experienced humanitarian partners to deliver life-saving assistance" will provide the "security and stability" it claims is its paramount concern.

Dan Kovalik’s a lawyer, educator, labour, peace, and justice activist, democracy defender, journalist, author, and filmmaker. He’s recently returned from Syria, his third visit, talking to the people there and bringing their stories home to America.

Dan’s book titles include: ‘Cancel This Book: The Progressive Case Against Cancel Culture’ the “Plot to” series on American efforts to undermine the governments and economies of Iran, Venezuela, and Russia, ‘No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using ‘Humanitarian’ Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interest’, and his latest, ‘The Case for Palestine: Why It Matters and Why You Should Care’.

Today, a special report with Dan Kovalik on the West's Genocides in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine and more.

The massacre of Alowites in Syria has the makings of another genocide. Western governments are downplaying the carnage carried out by their Cat's Paw "president", the so-called Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, leader of the Al Qaeda associated Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham or HST. The former Islamic State and Islamic State in Iraq terrorist-for-hire is now bestowed media protection, given the sheen of respectability only a well-tailored western suit of clothes and favourable press coverage can imbue.

The horrors avoided by queasy mainstream outlets can be viewed though on various social media platforms; the HST marauders of the Alowite dominated coastal and mountain villages taking a page from the Israeli Defense Force playbook and uploading their atrocities as they are committed. Some thousands fled to the Russian air base Khmeimim in the early hours of the pogrom, but their and the fate of the Russian bases remaining in Syria is up in the air at the moment.

John Helmer’s a journalist and author who’s spent decades living in and reporting from Russia. More than a thousand are reported killed in the Syrian port cities of Latakia and Tartous by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, the Islamist force that ousted the government of Bashar al-Assad in a violent coup late last year. Reports from the predominantly Alawite coastal region say all Alawite civilians are being targeted by both HST soldiers and Sunni militias. Grizzly images recorded by soldiers and so-called militiamen confirm wide-spread killing. The Christian Science Monitor quotes regime spokesmen saying it is "responding to attacks from remnants of the pro-Assad forces", while refusing to take responsibility for what looks like an ethnic massacre it blames on "individual" actors.

Laith Marouf is a Beirut-based multimedia consultant, producer, and now frontline war reporter. He's the founder and Executive Director of FreePalestine.Video whose purpose it says is to provide coverage of the region, “…in the absence of media supporting the resistance forces in the English language due to the ban in the West.

So, it's over. Canada's "special relationship" with our southern cousin is officially kaput. It's cold comfort we aren't the only one shat upon by Trump's Second Republic. Great Britain, Ukraine, Panama, and all the NATO nations believing they enjoyed America's special affections are reeling at the discovery of its' faithlessness. Like Denmark, whose "autonomous territory" Greenland Trump shamelessly wooed in front of it's eyes. The long-held Danish belief that no matter how horrible it behaved, "...the USA were ‘the good guys’ and our most important support in the World" is shaken now for good.

Ron Ridenour is an ex-pat American journalist, author, editor, and peace activist currently living in Denmark. Ridenour's book titles include: 'Backfire: CIA’s Biggest Burn', 'The Russian Peace Threat: Pentagon on Alert', and his latest, 'Winding Brook Stories'. Ron's also worked as a special correspondent and freelancer for numerous publications in Europe, the US, and Latin America, including CovertAction Magazine, where I found his article, 'Trump's Greenland Takeover Threat Could Cause Denmark, and Other European Countries, to Reclaim Their Sovereignty'.

Ron Ridenour in the first half.

And; 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Asilomar Conference. If you've never heard of it, it's OK; you weren't invited. Just as you were likely not on the guest list for its quinquagenarian gathering, the 'Spirit of Asilomar and the Future of Biotechnology Conference' held last month. And that's a problem, according to a conglomeration of Global Civil Society groups who say secrecy around development of genetic engineering, bioweaponry, virology and synthetic biology research, and other fast emerging technologies pose existential risks for human and environmental survival.

Dr. Jonathan Latham holds a PhD in Virology and is co-founder and Executive Director of the Bioscience Resource Project. He is too Editor of the Independent Science News where the Global Civil Society article, 'The Dire Consequences of Secretive Biotech Regulation' appears.

Jonathan Latham and opening the debate on biotechnology in the second half.

But first, Ron Ridenour and revelations of Denmark's false friend, America.

March 5, 2025

Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded March 5th, 2025.

Last week, Canadian journalist, author, activist, and political arrestee Yves Engler thanked those within his country and without for springing to his defense during his five day incarceration. And Canadians for the most part are happy to see him freed; throwing people in prison for writing and speaking is widely regarded here as less than Canadian. But, while Yves is out of the clink, neither he nor the assumption of free speech in Canada is out of the woods.
