Last month in an “extraordinary session” Argentina’s National Congress signed off on reforms to the country’s ‘Glacier Law’. The 2010 law was a hard-fought and rare win, protecting both the environment and water security for millions of Argentinians. With its “reforms” now ratified, the fear is foreign mining giants will move in and destroy an irreplaceable resource. And, there’s a Canadian connection.
Arturo Ezquerro-Cañete teaches in the Department of International Development Studies at Dalhousie University, and the Department of Political Science and Global Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. He also serves as Latin America Program Coordinator at MiningWatch Canada.

And; the Filton 6 have been enduring retrial in Britain’s justice system; the same made famous through its prolonged internment and torture of Julian Assange. The defendants, it may be remembered, where exonerated for destroying war materiel on the shop floor at the Elbit Systems weapons plant in Bristol in 2024. The members of Palestine Action believed the factory was implicated in the genocide then and still occurring in Gaza, Palestine.
Andy Worthington’s an English journalist, activist, author, photo-historian, filmmaker, musician, song-writer and principle of The Four Fathers band. He is too a co-founder of the ongoing Close Guantánamo campaign. His book titles include: ‘The Guantánamo Files: The Stories of the 774 Detainees in America’s Illegal Prison’, ‘Stonehenge: Celebration and Subversion’, and ‘The Battle of the Beanfield. Andy’s articles appear at: AndyWorthington.co.uk, and at his eponymous Substack site, where I found his recent post, ‘Filton 6 trial jury verdict: four guilty of criminal damage, two cleared’.
