Geothermal Energy: The Renewable and Cost Effective Alternative to Site C?

CanGEA to Release Major Report on Geothermal Energy in BC: 'Geothermal Energy: The Renewable and Cost Effective Alternative to Site C?'

by CanGea

VICTORIA , BRITISH COLUMBIA - Members of the media and the public are invited to attend a one-hour briefing hosted by Alison Thompson, Chair and Managing Director of the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association (CanGEA).

Thompson will release the findings of an important new CanGEA report on geothermal energy in British Columbia.

New information and analysis contained in the CanGEA report addresses whether geothermal energy is a low cost, clean, viable alternative to the proposed Site C Dam project ("Site C").

The report was prepared to fill the information gap identified by the Site C Joint Review Panel: The Panel concludes that a failure to pursue research over the last 30 years into B.C.'s geothermal resources has left BC Hydro without information about a resource that BC Hydro thinks may offer up to 700 megawatts of firm, economic power with low environmental costs. The new report is timely since the BC Cabinet is expected to decide whether or not to proceed with Site C before Christmas.

Additional information will be issued on November 25th at 11:45 am.

Thompson will be available following the press conference for interviews.
