NO BURNING OUR NATIVE FORESTS FOR ELECTRICITY SAVING FORESTS IS CLIMATE ACTION

As Australia faces a general election, one issue that has got little attention but is a major threat to Australia's forests is their use as a fuel in power stations where they are burnt for electricity.
Not only does this release more CO2 than coal to produce equivalent energy, but it also destroys our more powerful carbon sequestration tool- our forests. It also destroys the habitat of forest dwelling critters, diminishes the catchment values and overall degrades a critical natural asset.
In NSW, the State Government has announced that there is 1 million tonnes of wood per year (140 truckloads a day) from the north coast alone, that is available for conversion to wood pellets to be burnt for electricity, either in Australia or overseas. To facilitate this they have increased logging intensity, introduced clearfelling, reduced stream buffers, allowed logging of oldgrowth, and reduced protections for threatened species. Other Australian governments are exploring this option as well.
If you want to know more you can livestream a shortened version of the film, BURNED - Are Trees the New Coal . This film is to forests, what Gaslands was to fracking! A huge eye-opener.
This industry is growing at a ridiculous rate and is doing exactly the opposite of what it is meant to do. That is, increasing greenhouse gases while destroying carbon sinks. Get informed and support our campaign.
