The two and a half year campaign to spare Fairy Creek’s ancient forests from timber company Teal Jones’ saw more than 1200 everyday citizens arrested and charged with contempt of a court injunction. The 2023 Henderson decision put an end to the legal peril for those who chose to put themselves between the loggers and one of the last old growth stands remaining on Vancouver Island. The cameras may have gone now - as have untold numbers of irreplaceable forest giants - but the fight to save what remains continues. 

David Quigg is an organizer with the Sierra Club of BC. He will be among the throng before the BC Legislature Buildings demanding Hands Off Old Growth! October 4th.

And; itinerant musician, songwriter, and relentless social justice advocate and activist, David Rovics was in Victoria last week. The occasions for his visit were support for Cuba and end of the illegal US blockade of the island nation - now in its 65th year - and the first International Day of Peace Summit on Peace & Social Justice held over the weekend on the Leg. grounds.

Rovics, who’s been compared to such social movement giants as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Phil Ochs provided the music for resistance, as he has done so many times and in myriad places. But, there’s more to David Rovics than just a thousands-deep repertoire, and countless gigs around the World; he is too a prolific essayist, and media activist, covering the people and issues ignored by the state and corporate press.
