Gorilla Radio for Monday, May 2nd, '05

G-Radio is dedicated to social justice, the environment, community, and providing a forum for people and issues not covered in the mainstream media.

Not long before his 2001 election, Premier Gordon Campbell stated: “I don’t believe in breaking contracts.” He said this in response to worries expressed by government employees that the Liberals would negate and renege contracts signed by their predecessor NDP government.

Not long in power, the Premier, counter to his belief system, did exactly that.

One of the many unprecedented actions taken by Gordon and his gang is the unilateral cancellation of retirement benefits for both current and former employees.

This retroactive rewrite of promises signed and sealed is, in the eyes of the B.C. Government Retired Employees Association illegal, and last December they filed a 100 million dollar plus law suit against the province of B.C.

Terry Prentice is a retired public servant currently serving on the BCGREA Class Action Committee. Terry Prentice in the first half.

And; we’ve all heard of corporations and corporatism, but what is it? What are these perpetual entities, and why should we mere mortals keep an eye on their doings?

Pratap Chatterjee is an investigative journalist and the Managing Editor and Program Director with the U.S.-based CorpWatch. He’s been watching the corporate bonanza surrounding Iraq’s war and occupation contracts. Pratap Chatterjee in the second half.

And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that’s good to do in and around Victoria this week.

But first, Terry Prentice and promises made, promises broken.
