Social Justice Film Night Presents 2 films

Sponsored by Victoria Friends of Cuba & Haiti Solidarity B.C.

7pm Thurs. Nov. 15 at 2994 Douglas (BCGEU Hall)

"HAITI: CALL OF THE CONCH FOR BATTLE" - This 42 min film by Belgian director Anne Delstanche, tells the story of Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake and aftermath through the voices of Haitians and the Cuban medical teams serving the country. The earthquake crushed an already devastated country but also saw the expansion of a large international solidarity movement. What forms of cooperation are developing now and with what results?

"BASEBALL IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA" - Directed by American filmmakers David Darg and Bryn Mooser, depicts the devastating cholera epidemic that broke out in Haiti in October 2010. It describes the effects of the epidemic on the lives of a group of baseball-loving children. The film is dedicated to the legal action by Haitians to win accountability from the United Nations for its role in the reckless introduction of cholera to the country.

Roger Annis from Haiti Solidarity B.C. will present the films and answer any questions that may arise from the showings.

Admission by donation. All donations received will go towards the "Cuba for Haiti" Campaign (Cuban doctors working in Haiti).
