This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook - Gorilla-Radio.com
It's been almost a year since the American muckraking journalist, Barrett Brown's arrest by the FBI. As well as his articles, published at mainstream sites like Vanity Fair, the Guardian, and The Huffington Post, Brown was too for a time an information conduit for the online hacktivist collective, Anonymous. It was likely this connection that raised his profile with the feds; that and his role in creating Project PM, an independent think-tank and wiki set up to dissect and disseminate the thousands of files retrieved from the private security contractor HBGary. Brown is still held in federal custody, waiting without bail for the commencement of his trial on charges that could see him put away for more than a century.
Kevin M. Gallagher is a Massachusetts-based writer, musician, and systems administrator. He's also the director and founder of Free Barrett Brown, a coalition of concerned citizens who see in Brown's case an imminent danger to the freedom of us all, and threat to all our freedoms. Free Barrett Brown.org is currently trying to raise funds for Barrett's legal defense, and working to keep his case in the media spotlight.
Kevin M. Gallagher in the first half.
And; the precarious situation for wildlife in the Salish Sea, and for the entirety of land-based flora and fauna dependent on nutrients it brings ashore, has elevated again. New findings of an illness effecting herring has marine biologist, author, and wild salmon activist, Alexandra Morton again trying to gain the absent attention of those government agencies ostensibly charged and concerned with the care and oversight of Canada's marine environment. She says, statements so far made by a B.C. Ministry of Environment spokesperson to "Canada's national paper," the Globe and Mail intimating a "limited" viral outbreak may be "good for herring stocks" is unhelpful and uninformed.
Alexandra Morton tilting again at the B.C. Ministry of Environment and the DFO, this time for the herring, in the second half.
And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV Radio broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom the hour to bring us up to speed with some of the good things, and less so, going on on our city's streets and beyond. But first, Kevin M. Gallagher and the strange case of Barrett Brown.
