Monday D2: Victoria Rally for Indigenous People of Elsipogtog

Not backing down - Support land defenders Monday: Victoria Rally for Indigenous People of Elsipogtog

by Zoe Blunt - VIC FAN

Hi! I hope you're staying warm. Have you seen the latest news from the Mi'kmaq versus the fracking companies in New Brunswick? It's epic.

Indigenous people of Elsipogtog and their allies have been shutting down the highways to stop fracking exploration trucks from entering their territory. Background here: http://reclaimturtleisland.com/news/

They've SUCCEEDED in turning back the trucks day after day for weeks despite arrests and injunctions. Soon the ground will freeze and the fracking exploration season will be over. For now, they are asking all of us who want to defend land and water to stand up with them tomorrow (Monday).

In Victoria, a rally has been called for 11:30 am Monday at the main library downtown, 735 Broughton. We'll march at noon to demonstrate against the persecution of elders, warriors, and indigenous defenders across Turtle Island. In Vancouver: 5 pm rally and march from Main and Hastings.

People are opposing fracking everywhere it's happening, which is everywhere; actions are even being planned in Australia, UK and New Zealand. Here in Canada, check this Twitter page for live updates as they happen: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23shutdowncanada
