INDIGENOUS LAND DEFENDERS SPEAK ON MINING, SOLIDARITY AND MORE

Ancestral Pride and Savage Family ~ Creating a Culture of Resistance Speaking Tour

by Ancestral Pride

January 13 and 14TH, 2014 ~ on Lekwungen, Esquimalt and WSANEC territories Gwaiina and Xhopakelxhit of Ancestral Pride will be speaking on building a culture of resistance to colonialism, imperialism and capitalism.

Come and listen to these front-line, community-based land defenders speak about their vision to protect their lands and water from mining and to defend their ways of life.

Imperial Metals is proposing an open pit copper mine on Catface Mountain (Chitaapi). Open pit mining is horrifically and irreversibly damaging to the environment and ecosystems. Catface is within Clayoquot Sound and is located within Ahousaht First Nation Territory. Chitaapi is Ahousaht’s to protect. If the mine is established on these lands, they will become uninhabitable.

Resistance Hip Hop artists Savage Family will also perform. You don’t want to miss this!

TWO DATES!

Monday, January 13 @ 7PM, Student Union Building Upper Lounge, University of Victoria

Tuesday, January 14 @ 6PM, Camas Books & Infoshop, 2620 Quadra Street, on Lekwungen Territory

Entry by donation, with all proceeds going to support the speakers and speaking tour.

Accessibility info: There will be snacks and refreshments provided. These events have childcare. Bus tickets are also available. Please help us provide a scent free event to accommodate people with chemical sensitivities. At Camas, we regret that the washroom is not wheelchair accessible.
