Land Defenders Blockading Six BC Sites

Happening Now - Land Defenders Blockading Six BC Sites

by Wildcoast.ca

Peaceful uprisings: Land defenders across the region are holding the line against corporate destruction.

In northern BC's Sacred Headwaters near Iskut, the Klabona Keepers are seeking to prevent another Mount Polley mining disaster on their land.

They are blocking the Red Chris mine, which was set to open this year.

Imperial Metals, the company that operates the Red Chris and Mount Polley mines, is going to court Monday to try to evict Tahltan First Nation people from their own territory.

Now is the time to join the grassroots movement to defend the Sacred Headwaters of the Skeena, Nass, and Stikine Rivers.

Please send support here.

Get in touch to stand with the defenders.

From the Klappan (Tl’abāne) Road Blockade:

Tl’abāne is the Sacred Headwaters of the Stikine, Skeena and the Nass rivers. The land, water, animals and plants of these Sacred Headwaters have nourished us for untold centuries, and still do. We have lived and died here for millennia, and like our ancestors, here too we will die. What has been proposed for this place by the despoilers would enrich a few, for a short time, but would leave us dispossessed of the very thing which defines us as a distinct people.

Five more peaceful blockades are going on now to protect land and water in BC. We are offering assistance with volunteers and legal support.

  • Penelakut (Grace Islet, near Salt Spring Island) - Protecting a native burial site from development.
  • Tseshaht Nation (Port Alberni, Vancouver Island) - Preserving old-growth forest in the drinking watershed.
  • Unis'tot'en Camp (near Smithers) - Blocking Enbridge tarsands and gas pipelines.
  • Madii Lii Camp (between Smithers and Kitimat) - Preventing gas development and pipelines.
  • Gidumten Camp (near Smithers) - Stopping mining and pipeline development.

Help us organize. More peaceful blockades are coming. Please contact us for information about supporting the front lines.
