Canada: Violating First Nation Sovereignty Over Pipeline

Canada Violently Violates First Nation Sovereignty Over Pipeline

by Margaret Flowers and Kevin Zeese - Clearing the FOG

January 14, 2019

The Wet’suwet’en Nation, which has never ceded its territory, has worked to stop pipelines Canada wants to build through its territory for the past ten years. The struggle came to a head last week when police violated their agreement with the Gidumt’en Clan, using violence to remove a blockade and arrest fourteen members.

We speak with Jennifer Wickham, member of the Gidumt’en Clan, about what is happening in this pivotal fight to protect the land, water and earth, and what can be done to support the Wet’suwet’en People.

Guest: Jennifer Wickham is a member of the Gidimt’en clan of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation who serves as a spokesperson for the Gidemt’en checkpoint.
