A very good article. What worries me is that most of the comments seem to presume that Russian is preparing to attack the USA in a ritualized replay of the Cold War. However, it could not be more obvious that Russia is saying quite simply in unexaggerated concrete terms that they do not agree to be dominated and ruled by and integrated into the USA or its empire and that Russian sovereignty is not transactable.
Now, there is a country, a great nation, called the USA and then there is the empire of financially compelled allied and vassal countries also called the USA-NATO. The great weakness of the USA is that neither its own people nor the people of the allied and vassal states have an interest in supporting the goal of US domination of Russia, because they understand Russia’s aspiration to be independent and sovereign. Insisting that the allies and vassals must be belligerents against Russia will expose that the allies and vassals are neither democratic nor independent from the USA.
This exposure will rapidly increase cognitive dissonance in the vassals and allies and generally militate against support for belligerence against Russia. So, in order to compel support for domination abroad, it is necessary to more clearly dominate the USA and the allied and vassal states, such that obedience can be relied upon.
It would seem that there may be very little public support for the USA and its allies destroying Russia and or its allies. Now, who is going to tell the people of the USA and its allies and vassals that their media has been lying to them?
The empire disintegrates when it threatens or uses nuclear weapons to dominate Russia. Does the Pentagon want the empire to disintegrate? Maybe the people of the USA can push to revert to a multilateral world view with many non-aligned nations.
