Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded October 14th, 2026

Ethiopia is at war; both within its borders, fighting again in Tigray province, and facing too resumption of the never properly resolved cessation of fighting with neighbouring Eritrea.

Finian Cunningham is a prolific journalist, author, and host of ‘The Word with Finian Cunningham’ on the Youtube platform. He’s also a two-time Serena Shim Award for Uncompromising Integrity in Journalism recipient, and spent the better part of a decade living in and reporting from Ethiopia’s Tigray region. Finian’s many articles on international affairs appear at numerous online outlets, including Strategic Culture, where I found his recent piece, ‘Ethiopia at War: The Horn of Africa is Set to Explode’.

Finian Cunningham in the first half.

And; Canada’s current prime minister is set on terrifying the citizenry into giving over hard-won rights new and old in exchange for “safety and security”. The threat according to Carney is the pernicious, if unproven, influence of China, Russia, and of official enemies, on Canadian democracy and “our way of life’. But, as flimsy his evidence, and hackneyed his PR is, Carney’s right in one thing; the affordability threat has millions of us, from coast to coast to coast, terrified the next rent hike, or loss of income could well mean a future life on Canada’s cold streets.

Bill Appledorf is the principle behind RadioBill.ca. The “old man in a room somewhere” created the news and analysis web site from his many articles and op-eds on housing, rents, homelessness, the privatization of healthcare in Canada, and other things. It’s where I found his recent piece, ‘Interest Rates, Financialization, and Housing’.

Bill Appledorf and the “supply and demand” grift behind skyhigh rents and the pauperization of Canada in the second half.

But first, Finian Cunningham and the clarion call to war ringing again in the Horn of Africa.

Bill notes: The story about RTB protecting two "investors" and their bank who should lose on a speculation that went negative and screwing tenants who just happened to be renting the property involved is here: https://radiobill.ca/Content/SpeculatorsTenantsAndBadLoans.html
