®evolution Theory

®evolution Theory

®evolution Theory is a new media production company formed by producer Lisa Hsu and Sundance-award winning writer/director Stephen Marshall, who cofounded Guerrilla News Network (GNN). Previously, the partnership has produced award-winning short documentaries for GNN and music videos broadcast on MTV, MTV Europe and selected for RES Fest.

Their first documentary feature, BattleGround: 21 Days On the Empire’s Edge premiered at Mill Valley FF, won the Silver Hugo for best doc at the 2004 Chicago International FF and was subsequently sold to Showtime. The prodco's first narrative feature film, This Revolution starring Rosario Dawson wrapped in September 2004, and premiered at Sundance 05.

®evolution Theory was founded on the belief that politically and socially relevant films can be produced for youth and discriminating cosmopolitan audiences – traditionally the hardest demographics to reach with these projects. Production will focus on two streams of content:

1. music-driven feature-length road films into global conflict regions,

2. star-driven, edgy, socio-politically relevant narrative features.

The road films will be strategically produced to win critical and commercial success at international film festivals and in the worldwide television and DVD markets.

By working on the successful model presented in BattleGround (currently repped by Cinetic Media), these products will seek to create their own niche and build into a legacy that brands ®evolution Theory as the new leader in blending artistic, cinematic production values with well-researched, hard-hitting, and character-driven stories.

Working with a minimal production team, prodco will send cameras into regions that mainstream news sources have abandoned. Following the success of BattleGround, the prodco is now in development for Holy War, a doc that will take its viewers into the twin hearts of radical Christian and Islamic fundamentalist culture.

The narrative features will be developed from original scripts that are specifically written to attract A-list talent for roles they will not be offered within the studio system. The critical and audience reaction to This Revolution, which took 100 days to complete – from conception to final edit – has proven that there is a demand for message-driven films that integrate critical socio-political issues into the three act narrative structure.

®evolution Theory is currently developing two new feature projects, The Contract and Manual For The Urban Guerrilla, which has been invited for submission to the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab.

While ®evolution Theory seeks to become a leader in cutting-edge content production, the prodco will strive to establish a bricks and mortar micro-studio environment to catalyze a new generation of artists who seek to use artistic expression to transform the world they have inherited.
